PARADIS STUDIO is the studio of Derek & Georgina Riley de Cayless in the South of France near Narbonne. DEREK RILEY DE CAYLESS, F.R.S.A.
Derek Riley de Cayless was born in 1931, studied art in England and Germany, has been working full time as an artist and sculptor in wood and stone since 1963. From 1964 - 1981 he had his own gallery in Scotland working in sculpture and watercolour painting. In 1981 he moved to Norfolk, England and continued to work in the same media he took up Wood Engraving in 1972 completing over 70 Ex Libris. He was elected a Member of the Society of Wood-engravers in 1978 and he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts in 1983.
While in Norfolk he became involved in wood carving for Organ Builders and completed over 120 contracts for decorative carving for organs and churches (over 60 in America) in the last 18 years for all parts of the world including the carving for the replacement organ after the fire for Windsor Castle, for Her Majesty the Queen of England. He has also done carving for furniture for the Sultan of Oman, and the Prime Minster of Oman. Some examples of the organ carving done from 1986 to 2004 They have lived for the last 12 years in the South of France and is a member of the Minervois Group of Artists working in oils, acrylic and water-colour and also has his own studio gallery along with his wife Georgina. Subjects are figure studies in a room and landscape settings and, local landscapes in all mediums and Still Life studies in oils. He also works in a style, which is a development of engraving work; these are imaginative works based on ideas from history, poetry and works of pure imagination.
GEORGINA E. RILEY de CAYLESS
Georgina Riley de Cayless has been working in watercolour for many years and was trained privately by Cavendish Morton. She has lived in the South of France for 12 years and is a member of the Minervois Group of Artists. She also has her own studio gallery along with her husband Derek.
She now works mainly in acylics or mixed media. The subjects she likes to paint are farmyard and wild life scenes in a natural setting , flower studies and beach scenes. Also scenes from our local area of markets, cafe scenes and the hill villages of France . She loves to paint figures in action or going about their work or leisure. |
