Impressionism gets a makeover “My inspiration comes from the European Masters. Primarily, it is the impressionistic school of painting that has touched a chord in me” says the young painter K. Jayakumar based in Kochi. The painterly instinct in him showed up early in life. No wonder, after schooling, Jayakumar didn’t have to think twice about his future calling-to be a painter with a difference. For Jayakumar, Joining Fine Arts College, Thrippunithura was a logical conclusion of this calling. After graduating in Fine Arts creditably he took to painting avidly and with passion. The mainstay of his works is on the accent on colour & form faintly reminiscent of his impressionistic influences. Bright yellows, reds, blues and blacks in his works conjure up traces of his inspirational source. It appears that the theme “Neo-impressionism” aptly sums up his style. By 2000, he had a good collection of works ready to be exhibited. The D-Day arrived on November 1, 2004. Jayakumar and a few of his peers conducted their first full-fledged exhibition. The exhibition was sponsored by the Insight Art Foundation. Jayakumar is presently working at MAA Bozell Kochi after job stints in Dubai and Bangalore. Even amidst a tough schedule at the office. |
