Contemporary art - what is it.
From the very name "contemporary art" it is clear that this is art that keeps up with the times, reflecting reality. But each era has its own present. Since the 60s of the 19th century, when technological progress began to develop, artists became crowded within the framework of classical traditions and standards. It was then that modern art was born.
It all started with Edouard Manet and his painting "Breakfast on the Grass", which in 1863 simply shocked the public and became the forerunner of many new trends in art, which later united under one name - modernism. Artists were actively looking for new ways to realize their ideas.
Impressionism turned out to be the first direction of modernism - the embodiment of fleeting impressions, the transition from the image of real objects to feelings and, then, ideas. The impressionists include E. Manet, O. Renoir, C. Monet, C. Pissarro, E. Degas and others. Further, Futurism, Cubism, Fauvism, Expressionism, Dadaism, Surrealism, Suprematism, Abstractionism appear. All directions can be compared with one big unusual family - each has its own individual character, but at the same time they are united by one common deep foundation.
In general, the era of modernism, which continued until the 1960s, is a new look at society and the role of the creative person in it. The artists wanted to reflect their attitude to the modern world, transform it and even invent a new one.
Artists are the conscience of society. They draw attention to various problems: social, political, environmental, psychological, domestic and show the world as it is thought.
If we proceed from the fact that contemporary art is the self-expression of the author and his sense of the real world, then it is not difficult to understand it. There is no right or wrong understanding. Any viewer is a co-author and can supplement the work with his own interpretation, accept it or not.
There are authors-researchers who express in their works the results of their research on social processes. To understand their work, it is better, of course, to know the idea and essence (you can read the tablet with an explanation), and at least know the theory a little.
There are authors who express themselves, their emotions, feelings and experiences. Here, the full calculation is not on the mind, but on the feelings and sensations of the viewer. And most of these artists.
There is no direct answer to the question: how to understand contemporary art. Stop, look, look, think. The more difficult today, the easier tomorrow.
