Biography of Vicki Branch - Artist

I am a self taught artist

My Style is basically realism, medium - Acrylic on stretched canvas

African people, wildlife and landscapes

I was born in 1953 and raised in a little logging town nestled in a beautiful valley surrounded by spectacular mountain ranges, on the fringe of the Russel Falls National Park, mid west of Tasmania, before moving to Hobart at the age of sixteen.

I think that I was blessed to grow up in that eara.  This was before television and computers.  As a child I was encouraged to use my imagination.  I created my own little adventures, discovering my surroundings, which made me appreciate all the little and the big things that life had to offer.

While living in this little town of Maydena, I was also fortunate to meet so many people of different cultures that came and went, one family in particular and my best friend came from Finland, her parents were self sufficient and her mother was a very talented artist.  Her paintings, weavings and pottery I would have to say became my inspiration for my desire to be creative. I tried everything and was good at it, but was never fulfilled with my achivements as I am when I complete a painting.

As a young girl I also dreamed of travelling the world and seeing the places of the people I met growing up.  I wanted to mingle with and experience their cultures, especially those of the tribal people of Africa, which I think was fitting that I started my journey into the world of art.  I try to portray the strong bright colors in my paintings that I so love from this beautiful, naturally expressive culture.

I have always had a thing for drawing eyes the building a face around them.  Eyes can express so much.  They can tell a story without saying a single word.

On completion of my first piece in June 2007, I must say that I was pleasantly surprised.  Something inside me woke up and with thw encouragement of family, friends and fellow artists: I am now building up a nice collection of pieces to share with the world of art lovers and critics alike.

My journey has just begun
