"Left At The Tracks"
Kristin Abraham
Acrylic painting on canvas - 24 Inches x 36 Inches
While we are faced with many crossroads in life, some are more obvious than others. The important thing is that we realize that there is beauty in whichever path we choose. We'll always want what we don't have, and the grass will always look greener on the other side.
While I usually don't prefer to portray the obvious cliche's of life, this seemed like a suitable time to address the reality of my demons. I naiively assumed that hitting the road would finally end all of my problems. I would be free! The truth is in the set of new chains. That, along with the obvious fact that the body can never out-run the mind.
Sometimes it takes your husband trapped in a mine to realize that you can't imagine life without him. Other times, it's a dream, turned into reality. Only to leave you dreaming new dreams. We are programmed to never be satisfied. The best part of an adventure is right before it starts. The anticipation, the feeling of achievement. Once you take that next step, you're burdened with the pressure of making it everything that you've built it up to be.
The truest reward is in finding yourself completely emersed in what you are doing at that exact moment. When you can smile without thinking "I wish that this moment wouldn't end" or "what will come next?" Then, only then, have you felt what I painted here. Sometimes it is more important to stop dreaming and just live. Accept this moment for what it is.
Left At the Tracks was started in Virginia, but finished in West Virginia. While it was meant to be the Virgina painting, it soon became the Virginia's painting. Since the few galleries that we were able to locate in W. Virginia were closed for the season, this piece was left in KY. We plan on leaving a piece in W. Virginia on our way back across the North in the summer.
