One of Sorrow and Remorse “One of Sorrow and Remorse” is a painting that symbolizes the choices we make in life. The hallway represents the painter’s path to the future. This hallway is made up of columns, instead of a solid wall. In addition to creating a more interesting composition, these columns exist to leave openings for what will enter and exit this path along the way. The paint on the walls seems to still feel tacky to the touch, as we notice how recently the paint was applied. Drop clothes are splattered with blue paint, and a paint bucket still drips from where paint was poured out the side. We can see how the painter’s tired arms dropped the roller after finishing the last column. The roller lays, unclean and not cared for, on the folded ground. Now we focus on the color. The whole hall has been painted blue. The mood is quiet and somber which proves that this path is truly “One of Sorrow and Remorse.” It was painted by the one who must follow it. This is symbolic to the attitude we carry towards life ahead of us. We all experience similar trials, however the severity of those trials is most often determined by the color we paint our hallway. This hallway actually existed. I was in the bahamas and walked by it. I was fascinated by the symbolism that I saw, so I couldn’t help but share it with others. I photographed the hall and painted it, not changing much of the initial composition.
