In the bird paintings the medium of oil paint is used to build up the tone and colours of the feathers through glazing. Though the style is realistic and representational, with loose medium to broad brush-strokes, the idea of a dreamlike evolved naturally and is enhanced by alteration of linear and arial perspective. Distant clouds, the moon in the daylight sky, contrasts of colour are used to reflect dreamlike setting. Tropical plants are painted for decorative purpose. The eye of the bird can be perceived as reflecting ‘The eye of the soul’ as in humans, - imagery of the outer-consciousness or the dreamlike. Inspirations to the subject include the French impressionist painter 'Henri Rousseau', gothic mythology and poetry.
