Yesterday, I was surprized by an almost imperceptible press release, among hundreds of thousands that usually populate the information world, although decorated with the most subtle asymmetry. Times when I felt that I had been born just to enjoy the most luxurious pleasures of aesthetics, to become into artworks all that I couldn´t sing nor to write came into my mind in a stream. Memories from a decade when a single mutation was mistakenly confused with the unexplained melting of steel curtain that released new adaptations, questions, and paradigms came to me. In summary, a piece that I painted 18 years ago will be in auction by May 20, near from my studio (http://www.invaluable.com/auction-lot/fidel-mico-1962-cuban-artist-111-c-9024d4783c) in absence of any rational appraisal, presumably based on a previous failed auction where an imitation was offered in Dalas, Texas, as if it were one of my artworks.

I just smiled and remembered those days mixing with
nights in forgotten place of the country where two humans preferred to die rather than separate their naked bodies, living in a humble house of infinite pleasures. My daughter had not been born when I decided to paint that place. Overloaded of inspiration, I worked out of myself, giving colours to my feelings, sensations, memories, and even to smells that remained trapped into the painting “Bohío virgen”. Not even the owner of this piece can imagine what he (she) is really holding. We lost the sense of time, without sleeping, eating, not even thinking, just like crazy animals in a wild game of love, tenderness, and not avowable original sins. In that hyperspace, our skin burnt more than a sun, rolling over the floor until the sky. We saw unaccountable sunsets and dawns without finding the meaning of any surrounding matter, because we were actually out of control, and maybe out of the earth.

If it were actually true that my feelings were transferred into my artworks, then, the next owner of the painting “Bohío virgen” should know what will be hang in the wall of his (her) Hotel, Bank, Office, Bedroom or Library. A massive amount of love is contained in this artwork, and some day it will scape as storm into humans that have been born one for each other. They will not be themselves, and nobody will recognize knowing to them, because they will feel as the exclusive owners of the time and the space. Yes, I painted “Bohío virgen” with my heart for those
who even believe in love.

The painting “Bohío virgen” is oil on canvas that I painted in 1997. I used a canvas of medium thickness cotton (unprimed). I made the stretching by fixing the canvas with ¼ inch brads. I made priming in three layers of gesso by using 2 inch brush. Every layer was followed by drying during 24 hours and careful sand-down before applying the next layer. Drawing was made by pencil, at the painted place. The painting was made in three layers using a mixture of linseed oil and camphene as diluents. Volumes were defined from the second stain, starting from the background to the foreground. Details and light were defined in the third layer. I didn’t need more than a week to start varnishing after finishing the painting process, because I use a method to avoid the traditional drying time that ranges between 3 and 6 months. Finally, I applied two layers of varnishing, by using 2 inch brush, with 48 hours of drying between layers. Blister brushes were used for blending the colours together. The palette was white plastic where the excess painting was stored for later use. Varnish and oil paintings were not mixed during the process. The signature is beneath the varnish, and I made it in more than one stroke. There is not additional writing under the signature, or in the back of the painting.

Warning to collectors, galleries, and auction houses   A few months ago, I started to receive a significant amount of phone calls asking me for authenticity of my artworks. In most cases, the pieces were never painted by me, but all they had been sold as mine.
