In recent years, women now also perform in the Chinese Opera.   An  Exhibition of Chinese Opera Paintings by Harry Weisburd. is on exhibit at the Oakland Asian Cultural Center, 388 Ninth Street, Suite 290, Oakland, California.  The exhibition runs from June through December, 2007, and the galleries are open Tuesday to Saturday, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. The tradition of Chinese Opera goes back at least 200 years. The style of opera of singing depended on the dialect spoken , either Mandarin or  Cantonese.  Each city also had it's own style of scenic design and lighting.
