"City of Silos"

While driving alongside Iowan farmland, it isn't difficult for one to see where the painting titled "City of Silos" originated from. A skyline of cylinders line the horizon in this quiet, yet productive land. Iowa seems to be one of the "forgotten states." It is easy to lose sight of it amongst the romantic Twin Cities and bustling Chicago. However, Iowa, significantly represents the foundation of American culture.
In "City of Silos," cornfields are glorified as silos surround in a standing ovation. The active sky was inspired by the whirling lights at the Iowa State Fair in Des Moines. "People spend the entire year waiting for the fair," explained Dan Kavanaugh, of Kavanaugh Gallery.
The entire concept is brought together with a simple one-point perspective composition in order to lure viewers into the depths of fields. The silos take on a space capsule feel as the past leads to the present and ascends into the future.
