Yoni
"Vulva," the primary Tantric object of worship, symbolized variouslyby a triangle, fish, double-pointed oval,horseshoe, egg, fruits, etc. Personifying the yoni, the Goddess Kalibore the title of Cunti or Kundu, root of the ubiquitous Indo-Europeanword "cunt" and all its relatives: cunnus, cunte, cunning,cunctipotent, ken, kin, country.
The Yoni Yantra or triangle was known as the Primordial Image,representing the Great Mother as source of all life. As the genitalfocus of her divine energy, the Yantra was adored as a geometricalsymbol, as the cross was adored by Christians.
The ceremony of baptismal rebirth often involved being drawn bodilythrough a giant yoni. Those who underwent this ceremony werestyled "twice-born."

In devanagari, the word created by the four letters y,o,n, and i is a construction of various concepts. The letters signify the following:
Y = The animating principle, the heart, the true self, union
O = Preservation, brightness
I = Love, desire, consciousness
to shine, to pervade, pain and sorrow
N = Lotus, motherhood, menstrual cycle, nakedness, emptiness, pearl
This succession of letters is a peculiarity of Sanskrit. Although pronounced yo-nee, the word is writted as yoin.
The term yoni heralds from a culture and religion in which women have long been regarded and honored as the embodiment of divine female energy -- the goddess known as Shakti -- and where the female genitals are seen as a sacred symbol of the Great Goddess. Because the Eastern Tantrics and other ancient cultures worship the Divine in the form of a Goddess, the term yoni has also acquired another, more cosmic meaning, becoming a symbol of the Universal Womb, the Matrix of Generation and Source of All.
