In my figurative paintings, my aim is to provide a visual commentary on everyday life. By eliminating most of the background detail, I try to reveal the work’s underlying emotional content, enabling the viewer to personally identify with each scene. I am more interested in the emotive quality of my work, so you will notice that brushstroke and choice of palette overshadow the technical aspects of each composition.
For my floral paintings, I am more fascinated with the play of light and dark and movement, than with a realistic impression. I am totally in love with roses, which make up by far the bulk of my flower paintings and there is no real hidden meaning in any of them, just visual expressions of one of nature’s marvels.
My paintings are in private collections both internationally and inSouth Africaand are exhibited on an on-going basis at Signature Art in Durban North, Kwa Zulu Natal. Sharleen Boaden +27 (0)82 492 1771
