Born in the heart of rural Wiltshire 1971. A passion and affinity for art grew from an early interest in illustration and drawing, inspired by the natural beauty of the surrounding countryside a progression to painting soon developed to fuel his creativity.

John attended Pewsey Vale secondary school from 1982 to 1988 and then went on to study art and design at chippenham college before taking a two year course in traditional carpentry

It was a few years before John took the brush up for his full time profession, a carpenter for 10 years making and restoring reproduction antique furniture, his painting remained a passionate hobby until family and friends convinced John that this was where his heart and talent truly lay.

Since then John has been working as a freelance artist in the inspiring surroundings of his native Wiltshire where he currently resides.

Abstract.

For many years I had been, by my own admission a bit of a traditionalist as a painter, trying to recreate or convey a scene to the viewer as they would see it themselves. So when I first put colour to canvas to paint abstract I did almost feel a slight nervous energy. Studying and admiring other painters work of abstract I wondered if I could create art and do myself as an artist justice - be true to myself.

Opening up to express myself in this form has been an enlightening experience, and has taught me a lot about myself, both as an artist and as a person, and that what dwells in the farthest reaches of our hearts and minds, occasionally we must all dip into.
