A native West-Virginian, Aimee Barclay-Shull’s passion for artistic expression began as a child. Encouraged by her mother, an artist in her own right, Aimee began recreating the world around her on paper. Through her formative years, Aimee’s love of art expanded into photography. She continued to transform as an artist during her high school years and found herself yearning to share her talent with others. Upon graduation, Aimee entered the Art Education program at Marshall University and taught for four years in the Harrison County School system in WV. Aimee married in September 1997 and has since had two children. Her artistic expression demonstrates the world around her having grown up amongst the beautiful, rolling hills of West Virginia. “I am drawn to the outdoors and Mother Nature's miraculous creations.” This magnetism to nature’s beauty is evident in Aimee’s work.
Now a full-time, stay-at-home mother since the birth of her second child, Aimee manages motherhood and her full-time labors to perfect her artistic craft. Painting from a private studio in her home and photographing among the surrounding landscapes, Aimee has entered numerous exhibitions in recent years.
Whether photographing an awe-inspiring landscape or her own children, painting for a client or painting just for herself, Aimee never ceases to be amazed with her own evolution as an artist. If one was able to display a lifetime of accomplishments side-by-side, they would see their own gradual development and evolution become a multi-colored mosaic of their life. Aimee recognizes this constant progression and has appreciated each stage of her artwork through the years. “I am inspired to photograph and paint an ever-changing landscape that provides me with endless visions, ideas and possibilities. I approach my paintings spontaneously. My work continues to evolve and change in ways I do not always anticipate. It is very interesting to paint over time and to watch the work define its own future. Through my work, I hope to share an extraordinary perspective of the beauty in this world – the beauty I see, the way I see it. "
